The National Launch of DIWA

REFLECTION REPORT 05

I. Details of the event/activity

The title of the event that I attended was The National Launch of DIWA, held on December 12, 2022, 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM. The event was conducted online via Zoom Meeting and Facebook Live.

II. Reflections on the webinar/activity give rise to (learnings)

I believe that a woman can do anything a man can do, and this webinar further proves it. Many women in history changed the world, especially in technology. It's just that these great women are not given the same spotlight as their male counterparts, even to this day. That's why some people still have these "ancient" beliefs that women only belong in the house, kitchen, or the job of babysitting, even though it has been proven wrong throughout the times. Events like these make people open their eyes, ears, and mind, which helps them think about how and why their stereotypes, beliefs, and old way of thinking are wrong.

The topics discussed are significant in today's advancement of technology, especially the importance of data. Data is the new oil, they said. Before studying computer science, I always wondered why. For me, data was just a piece of information. But after learning how data serves its purpose to the world by not being used as is but processed in a way to be usable in different ways, it can tremendously improve our way of life.

Lastly, the speakers at the event were exceptional, especially the last speaker, Ms. Frei Sangil. Although she presented her lesson in a simplified and general way, it did not dilute her message to the audience. Her words were very inspirational. Ms. Frei ended her presentation that left a mark on my heart after she played a video where young girls are not limited by what society expects them to be when they grow up. They can be anything and not just become one but become inspirational figures for everyone.

III. Reflections on possibilities on implementing some of the webinar input on a practical level (practical application of learnings)

While the event only showcased women, they stated that gender does not define what you can and should do in life. Everyone can achieve anything as long as they set their mind to it.

As a man, I may not be able to contribute directly to the advancement of women in tech or anything in general. But I can help encourage other people to change their minds that gender does not limit our ability to do things.

IV. Positive feedback (on the event organization)

As expected of government agencies, there was not much to say. The event was organized, split into multiple sections, and had smooth transitions, encouraging the audience to participate.

V. Suggestions for improvements to be made/consider for future activities

The event itself was great. Although, there is too much information in one slide on some speakers, making it hard to absorb all the information.
